Description of the institute

The University of Chile was founded in 1842, making it the oldest higher education institution in Chile. Its 14 faculties and 5 interdisciplinary institutes are distributed over five campuses and several experimental stations in the capital city Santiago de Chile and other regions of the country. It is a public university with international quality: ranking 473 in the world, 9th place among its Latin-American peers and first place in Chile in the Ranking of Research Institutes (SCImago Research Group, Spain 2020). Twenty Chilean Presidents have been students of the University of Chile, and the two Chileans who received the Nobel Prize were also members.
